GROWING OLD DISGRACEFULLY
Warren Fahey refuses to grow old gracefully and prefers to celebrate getting ‘riper’ through songs, poetry and humour.
As a long-standing Senior’s Week Ambassador, Warren believes that ageing is a question of mind over matter – if you don’t mind, it won’t matter!
In this one-hour concert ‘Growing Old Disgracefully’, he sings songs and ditties about yesterday’s Australia – from both the bush and the city – and firmly presses nostalgia buttons, pointing out ‘you don’t stop laughing when you grow old, you grow old when you stop laughing’.
In 2022 Warren Fahey was nominated and a finalist as ‘Senior Australian of the Year’, which was an acknowledgement and honour. Fahey’s busy life as a writer, commentator, performer and historian is undoubtedly an inspiration to many older Australians. He says his somewhat hectic schedule is self-imposed, and he can’t imagine not working. As he sees it, one of the keys to life is contentment, and his ‘reward’ is in reminding fellow Australians about our unique culture, including our ability to laugh in the face of frustration. Getting older, or as he prefers to say, ‘riper’, certainly has its frustrations, but the alternative isn’t very inviting. He prefers to tell stories and sing.
